John E. Sweeney

November 30, 1950 — November 30, 2020

Crofton

On April 7th, 2021, John Edward Sweeney of Crofton went home to be with the Lord.  Beloved son of the late Eddie and Marie Sweeney; loving brother of Nancy (the late Tom) Whitley, Thelma (Denise) Bell, Bishop Eddie (Yvonne) Sweeney and the late James and Pat Sweeney. He is also survived by a host of caring nieces, nephews, and great and great-great nieces and nephews.

John worked as a custodian for 35 years for Prince George’s County Public School before retiring.  He then worked another 10 years for the Anne Arundel County Public Schools.  John was an active member of the Odenton Church of God.  He made sure to keep in touch with his family and friends, calling them often to talk.   His love for lighthouses and the way they lit a sky reflects throughout his home. John will always be remembered for his giving nature. He never visited someone’s home without bringing a gift and no one ever left his home without taking a gift that John had so thoughtfully bought for them.  He will be sorely missed by his family and dear friends.
