John Leeroye Bassford, Ii

John LeeRoye Bassford II, 51, on 22nd May 2018 quietly passed in his home in Severn, Maryland, surrounded by those he loved after losing his battle with cancer. A visitation  will be held on Friday 25, May 2018 at Donaldson Funeral Home in Odenton, Maryland from 4pm to 8pm with a Masonic service at 7pm.

John was born on 31 July, 1966 in Silver Spring, Maryland of Suzanne L. Ireland and George A.Bassford II. He graduated from Meade Senior High School in 1985. He married Dawn R. Hanlon in 1996 and became father to Tamara Geida, Lindsay and Matthew Wood as well as fathered Schuyler, Marina and Xander Hanlon. He was active in the Catonsville Demolay Chapter, Collington Masonic Lodge #230, the Severn Athletic Club and Glen Burnie High School sports programs. You could find him on sidelines with his video camera, flipping burgers in concessions or in the stands cheering on his children’s football, baseball, soccer, and lacrosse teams.

John is preceded in death by his brother Marc J. Bassford Sr.

John is survived by his spouse and children Dawn R. Hanlon, Tamara, Lindsay, Matthew, Schuyler, Marina and Xander of Severn, MD; brother Michael Bassford and his wife Jenny of Prairieville, LA; son in law Robert Geida; his brothers’ widow Karen Bassford of Summerville, SC; his mother and father Suzanne Ireland Anderson of Summerville, SC and George Bassford of Laurel, MD; his grandchildren Melani and Gavin Geida and McKenzie Kahl as well as his nieces and nephews Marc Jr.,  Shelby, Allison, Adam and Andrew Bassford.

He will be dearly missed by his many family, friends, brothers, and co-workers and the many others that knew and loved him.
