Jaswinder Kaur, affectionately known by her grandchildren as “Maji,” was born in Taiping, Malaysia on February 16, 1929. Her father, Sardar Hardith Singh, immigrated to Malaysia from India and had built a successful construction business there. Maji was the fourth of seven sisters. She and her family moved to India in the 1940s as her parents sought to find suitable matches for the sisters. Maji was married to Sardar Inder Singh and had five children, four of whom survive her today. She moved to England in 1985 to spend time with her eldest son and his family. She then moved to the United States in 1991 to spend time with her eldest daughter and her family, where she largely remained until her passing at her home in Maryland, at the age of 96. Maji was surrounded by her family as she peacefully passed.
Maji left us with many timeless lessons, including the power of prayer and the universal concept of oneness. She exemplified these lessons by living a life of service, both to her family and to her communities across Malaysia, India, England and the United States.
We are deeply grateful for our time together with Maji, as we humbly seek to continue her example of truthful living.
