Janice Swokla, 74, of Severn, MD, died peacefully at home on January 31, 2022 due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Hartford, CT, on September 24, 1947, “Jan” was the first of three children of the late Walter and Antoinette “Toni” Swokla (Cancelmo).
Graduating Weaver High School in 1965, Jan started her life-long career as a histological technician in Hartford hospital. She took a break to raise her family but got back into the field until she retired in 2011.
Jan was a devout Catholic and served as both a lector and eucharistic minister at her local parish, St. Jane Francis De Chantel in Riveria Beach, MD. She faithfully prayed the rosary daily. Jan enjoyed being with her family, reminiscing about her years in England by watching British TV shows, disco music, reading and spending one-on-one time with her close friends.
Left to remember her beautiful soul are her four children: Spencer Churchill (Tracy), Jennifer Wenger (James), Jacquelyn Furton (Gary) and Sarah Churchill; five grandchildren (who lovingly called her Grammi): Makenna, Molly, Trevor, Nathan and Delaney; her brother, Walter Swokla (Susan); her sister, Arlene Paterwic; nieces and nephew: Brittany, Kathryn, Benjamin and Emily; and her great nephews and niece: Cole, Luke, Bo and Samantha. She is also survived by her former husband, John Casey. She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Donald Paterwic.
There will be a private ceremony at Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. in Odenton, MD, on February 7, 2022 at 11:00 am. To view the live stream click HERE
