Harbans Singh Chhabra was born on February 10th, 1934 in Lahore, Pakistan. As a result of the Indian Partition, he and his family, which included his seven brothers and sisters, were transplanted to New Delhi, India where he spent his youth years. Despite being born with a curved spine that was considered a handicap in those days, he never let that influence his budding curiosity and zest for life.
After spending several years in Africa and Europe, he married the love of his life, best friend, and life partner, Kirpal, and permanently settled in Maryland.
His dedication to his family was eternally unwavering. He sponsored several of his family members to immigrate to the United States and, because of him, they are all living nothing short of the “American Dream” today.
However, his greatest source of pride and accomplishment were his three wonderful children, Mandeep, Parmdeep, and Amandeep (Sophie) who embody his guiding principles of life: ambition, self-reliance, independence, and the importance of laughter.
He will forever be remembered for his loyalty, his refusal to let any of life’s challenges get the better of him, and his unique combination of wit and humor that brought hearty laughter to those around him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kirpal, adoring children, Mandeep, Hanita, Parmdeep, Amandeep (Sophie), Harin, admiring grandchildren, Milan, Mirah, Hanna, and Shaan and 60+ endearing brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
