Glenn W. Whittington, Jr., 81, of Crofton, MD passed away at the Mandrin Chesapeake Hospice House in Harwood, MD after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, December 7, 2010. Glenn was born in Ellicott City, MD on November 15, 1929 and is the son of the late Glenn W. Whittington, Sr. and Carrie L. (Brown) Whittington.
After attending schools in Annapolis, MD Glenn enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He also enjoyed tours in Hawaii and Germany. He retired from uniform service in 1971 and entered the United States Air Force civilian component where he worked in Maryland; Pearl Harbor; Hawaii and Suffolk, England before retiring in Washington, DC in 1991. After retiring Glenn and Lucy traveled the world by cruise ship and land tours; before settling down and spending time with their family and friends.
Glenn is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret "Lucy" (Peake) Whittington of Crofton, MD; two children, Barry D. Whittington of Queidersbach, Germany and Pamela S. Parks of Deale, MD; five grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brother, Arthur Whittington of Willards, MD and sister, Joanne Richards of Princess Anne, MD. He was preceded in death by his brother, Roy and sister, Ruth.
The family will receive friends at the Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1411 Annapolis Road, Odenton, MD 21113 on Saturday, December 11, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. At Glenn's request a private cremation will follow the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mandrin Chesapeake Hospice House, 3675 Solomons Island Road, Harwood, MD 20776.
