Glen William Black was the fifth of six children born to the late Alvin, Sr., and Freida Black on August 22, 1961, in Plainfield, New Jersey. He departed this life at his home on March 20, 2025, in Severn, Maryland.
Glen attended the Plainfield public school system and graduated from Plainfield High School in 1980. Upon graduation, he attended Virginia Union University (VUU) and graduated in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in accounting. While at VUU, Glen pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and became a life member in 1990.
He was an avid New York sports fan; the Giants, Knicks, and Yankees were his favorite teams. Also, he loved working in his yard, grilling, and enjoying moments on his deck.
Glen moved from New Jersey to the Maryland area in March of 2000, to be closer to his son Kyle, and pursue other career opportunities. He loved playing with numbers, so budgeting and accounting were his professional gifts. He enjoyed teaching Kyle how to ride a bike, play baseball, and talking about the Giants win or lose season.
Glen worked for the Maryland Department of Labor Office of Financial Regulations (OFR) as a Mortgage Examiner. He started with OFR in 2018 and was a great team player and had a willingness to help his colleagues. He recently submitted his papers to retire and had plans to take up golf.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents, brother Alvin, Jr., and sister Darlene. He leaves to cherish his memories; one son, Kyle Evan Black of Bowie, MD; an older sister Rosalyn Black Riley of Manning, SC; one brother Michael Black of Plainfield, NJ; and a younger sister Valerie Black of Plainfield, NJ, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
