George Adolf Wacker

George A. Wacker, most recently of Odenton, Maryland, passed away on January 06, 2023 peacefully in his sleep. George started his career as a co-op student at the Naval Applied Science Laboratory at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in NY, where he worked from 1957 to 1965. He then transferred to the Marine Engineering Laboratory at Annapolis, MD, and, finally, to the Naval Surface Warfare Center at Carderock, MD, where he was head of the Survivability Structures and Materials Directorate which encompassed employees in Carderock, Norfolk, Annapolis, White Oak, and Philadelphia. George was a member of the Senior Executive Service, and was the recipient of over 30 awards throughout his 50 year Navy career. He received the Harold Saunders award from the Society of Naval Engineers for his lifetime achievements in Materials Engineering and received the designation of Meritorious Executive from President George H. W. Bush. He was a longtime member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, and held seasons tickets for both the (former) Baltimore Colts, and the current Baltimore Ravens. He was an avid fan of both Nascar and Indy races around the U.S. Upon his retirement, he traveled extensively with his wife, Judith, throughout more than 60 countries worldwide. He is survived by his beloved wife, Judith, of 60 years, his children, daughter Jennifer Young, her husband Mark, and their children, Julia and Tristan; and son Christopher Wacker, and his wife Christine. He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter Emily.
