On November 18, 2011, Gary Walter Wilhelm, beloved husband of Janet B. Wilhelm, and father to Pamela (Wilhelm) Hundley, David Wilhelm (Jessica), Steven Wilhelm (Christina), passed away peacefully in his sleep while under home Hospice care. His will and determination to remain independent and active throughout his health challenges carried him to the end as well as his great sense of humor and love for his family. He has been a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all that knew him. Although he is physically gone from this world, we know he will be with us always and watching over us as he plays his dream round of golf.
He is also survived by three wonderful grandchildren; Kelsey Hundley, Douglas Wilhelm, Sean Wilhelm and a fourth little blessing that will join us in July.
Gary was born on August 26, 1942 in St. Louis, MO and was the son of Florence (Lafser) Wilhelm and Walter Wilhelm (both of St. Louis, MO), and became a son to Leona Wilhelm (also of St. Louis, MO) when his father remarried. He is survived by his sisters, Kathleen (Wilhelm) Geist-Eskew (Mick), Judy (Wilhelm) Kamp (Jim); a brother, Bob Wilhelm (Rita); step-siblings; Bob Callanan (Barbara), Ron Callanan (Mary), Glenda Callanan, Fran (Callanan) Lucido (Phil) and Barbara Callanan (Bob) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In honoring his last wishes, Gary will be cremated and laid to rest at Maryland Veterans Cemetery Crownsville. Contributions may be made in his name to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401 or www.hospicechesapeake.org
