Floyd Taylor, Jr.

Floyd Taylor Jr., a selfless and deeply loving husband, father, grandfather, and great‑grandfather, departed this life peacefully on January 25, 2026, after a spirited and courageous battle with multiple illnesses. Floyd was born on September 6, 1942, and was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Taylor Sr. and Virginia Cameron Southerland, in Raleigh, NC. He was an only child.

A proud Air Force veteran, Floyd honorably served his country in uniform and went on to dedicate more than 30 years to the National Security Agency, continuing his commitment to service.

Floyd’s life was filled with purpose and heart. A lifelong New York Yankees and Los Angeles Rams fan, he found great joy in cheering on his teams. But nothing lit him up more than supporting the people he loved. Floyd always made it a priority to show up for his children, grandchildren, and great‑grandchildren. His pride in them was boundless.

Remaining active was an important part of Floyd’s life. He eventually authored a book about his running experiences—capturing not only the miles he covered, but the connections and lifelong friendships the sport gave him. When he wasn’t running, he could be found with the “Old Pharts” crew on a golf course, on a softball field, in a bowling alley, or simply walking around a track.

Floyd was also a voracious reader who consistently made time to immerse himself in a book. From gripping whodunnits to detailed accounts of military strategy he embraced reading as a way to learn and unwind.

Music was another of Floyd’s great joys. He had a deep appreciation for classic country tunes and the timeless sounds of 1950s rock and roll. Music often filled his family’s home and brought him happiness.

Floyd is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Carleton Frances Lindsey, his three children, Terri (Jim) Nelson, Mark (Elizabeth) Taylor, and Kim (Dave) Weinstein; his 13 grandchildren: Lindsey (Michael) Isaacson, Daniele (Jon) Fabis, Cameron (Taylor Wilhoite) Weinstein, Shelby (Fran) Barnes, Ashleigh (Scott) Hines, Miranda (Matt) Merchant, Julia Nelson, Kyle Taylor, Micki Weinstein, Morgan Taylor, Jenna Weinstein, Lexie (Doug) Tice, and Nikko Weinstein; and his 9 great‑grandchildren, Reagan Isaacson, Caleb Isaacson, Camden Weinstein, Owen Fabis, Grayson Merchant, Henry Fabis, Zealand Merchant, Myles Weinstein, and Jayden Tice. His memory will live on in each of them and in the many lives he touched throughout his remarkable journey.

May he rest in eternal peace, knowing he was deeply loved and will be forever missed.
