Esther Guier Newman

Esther Guier Newman, 96, of Severn, MD, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, July 24, 2012. Mrs. Newman was born June 14, 1916 in Newville, Pennsylvania to the late Rev. Lester R. Guier and Clara I. Guier.

Esther was a homemaker and a prior member of the Sweet Adelines Chorus, and sang with a barbershop quartet known as the "Mason Dixon Vixens." She attended Roberts Wesleyan College and was a member of the Woodbridge Church of the Nazarene and Nichols-Bethel United Methodist Church, in Odenton. An avid reader, she enjoyed researching the bible and exploring inspirational literature. Spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was one of her greatest pleasures.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Stanley E. Newman and by her second husband, Bernard E. Newman, two brothers, David Guier and Robert Guier, two sisters, Mary Guier Barnes and Ruth Guier Bansbach, and one grandson, Jason French.

She is survived by four daughters, Shirley French of Annapolis, MD, Stanette Nece of Alexandria, VA, Susan LeDoux and Sandra Newman, both of Severn, MD, eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit at Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1411 Annapolis Road, Odenton, MD 21113, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 30, 2012. A service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at Columbia Gardens Cemetery, 3411 Arlington Blvd. Arlington, VA 22201 on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 12:00 noon.
