Elmer Frederick Powell

Elmer Frederick Powell, Sr. of Laurel, MD, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD. Elmer was born on June 21, 1930 in Edmonston, MD and was the son of the late Walter Albert Powell and Rose Isabel (Garner) Powell.

Fresh out of school he was called upon to serve his country on the front lines of the Korean war. After his return home he met Marion; the love of his life and went on to start a family. Their first child was Charlotte, followed by Elmer F, Jr (Fred) and then George.

"Pops" loved building things, always improving on them and making them better. Mom would often bring home some tattered old piece from a local antique shop which he would lovingly restore for her. He was very proud of his family and the home he made for them. They meant everything to him.

Elmer is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Marion Elaine Powell of Laurel, MD; two loving sons, Fred Powell (Kathy) and George Powell. He is also survived by his devoted sister, Mary Rose Hunt and grandchildren Marion M. Johnson and Patrick M. Powell. Elmer is preceded in death by his daughter, Charlotte Powell.
