Edwin Joseph Pierce passed away on 21 August 2026.
A native of New Jersey, Edwin recently retired from the U.S. Army as a Sergeant First Class after more than 20 years of selfless service to our nation. His service was shaped by his experiences in combat, and throughout his career he made significant contributions to the Army’s institutional media and public affairs mission. He established an enduring reputation for professionalism, dedication, and sincere camaraderie with his fellow Soldiers.
He is survived by his wife, Madalyn; their four children; and his parents, Mark and Edwina Pierce.
A devoted father, Edwin’s unbridled enthusiasm for supporting his children’s interests included volunteering as a youth baseball coach. Most recently, he coached the Woodlawn Little League All-Star Team.
More than his accomplishments, Edwin will be remembered for the way he made people feel. He had a rare ability to turn a stranger into a friend almost immediately, and there seemed to be no limit to the kindness he was willing to give. If someone needed help, Edwin took the extra step. If someone needed to laugh, he could bring a smile to their face. And when words weren’t what someone needed, Edwin knew how to simply listen and offer one of his unmistakably warm hugs that somehow made even the hardest day feel a little lighter. He was adored by those fortunate enough to know him because he gave so freely of himself, expecting nothing in return.
Edwin leaves behind a legacy far greater than any title, rank, or accomplishment, a legacy found in his family, his friendships, the Soldiers he served beside, the young athletes he coached, and the countless lives made better simply because Edwin was part of them. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
He will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery during a private service.
The family asks those wishing to honor Edwin’s memory consider donating to Gold Star Family or veterans’ organizations of their choice.
