Edith Jane Cieslak

Edith Jane (Byorick) Cieslak, age 93, passed away peacefully on January 24 in Annapolis, Maryland surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on February 20, 1931, in Plymouth, Pennsylvania to Thomas and Emma Jane Byorick. On April 26, 1952, she married Edward Charles “Toots” Cieslak, who preceded her death in 1990.

Edith was known for her fierce loyalty, unshakable faith, and devotion to her family.  For more than 50 years, she was a dedicated parishioner at St. Mary’s in Landover Hills, Maryland, where she also enjoyed countless games of BINGO— often found in the Burgundy Room with 20 BINGO cards laid out in front of her, surrounded by her good-luck charms.  Her other passions included bowling, puzzles and crocheting beautiful blankets for friends and family, each stitch a labor of love. She was also a passionate fan of the Washington Redskins, cheering them on through every high and low season with unwavering loyalty. She will be remembered as a caring mother and Nana who helped shaped the values of her children and grandchildren—often watching them before and after school, instilling loyalty, kindness, and resilience by her own shining example.

Edith leaves behind her 5 children:

Deborah Self, who has 3 children and 4 grandchildren;

Edward Cieslak (Jean), with 3 children and 2 grandchildren;

Antoinette Camden (Richard), with 2 children, 3 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren;

Catherine Long, who has 2 children and 3 grandchildren;

Helen Greco (Frank), who has 2 children and 5 grandchildren.

Edith was preceded in death by 2 beloved grandsons, Michael Cieslak and Timothy Camden.  She leaves behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family who will dearly miss her warmth, humor and steadfast support.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at the Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1411 Annapolis Road Odenton, MD 21113 from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm with Prayers at 5:00 pm. Celebration of life will follow at Perry’s Restaurant  1210 Annapolis Rd., Odenton, MD 21113 from 6:30-9:30 pm.

Interment will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at 10:00 am at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery,13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20906.
