Dorothy C. Fitzgerald

Dorothy C. Fitzgerald, a resident of Severn, MD, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023 at The Hospice of Chesapeake , Pasadena, MD. She was 87. Dotty was born on June 27, 1935 in Berwyn Heights, MD and was the daughter of the late Theodore Parker Cowgill and Louise Duval.  Dotty and Pastor Jack enjoyed a long and loving marriage until his passing in 2021.

Dotty graduated from Northwestern Highschool and attended the University of Maryland, College Park. For 44 years she was an Administrator with the Prince Georges Board of License Commissioners until her retirement at the age of 79.  She was also very active in supporting Pastor Jack’s ministries at several churches throughout Maryland.  A wonderful organizer, Dotty served the church in many roles - choir director, treasurer, social director, board member, and anything else the church needed her to do.  She was also an active member of the United Methodist Women’s Group and Daughter of the American Revolution, organizing many charity events and activities over the years.  If something had to get done, Dotty was the one people turned to get the wheels moving no matter how big or small the job.  She forged many special friendships at work, in her church family, and the community that lasted a lifetime. Most of all Dotty was a fiercely loyal daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Even more than her beloved Washington Redskins, she was particularly proud and supportive of her family who she deeply cherished and encouraged, attending any and all activities whenever and wherever possible.  She never missed recognizing a birthday or special event in the family. Dorothy was a force of nature and will be greatly missed.

Dotty is survived by her loving children, David R. Lawson and wife, Veronica of Mineral, VA and Donna Stephenson and husband, Scott of Severn, MD; six cherished grandchildren, Amanda, Samantha, Shane, Katie, Jimmy and Jack; seven adorable great-grandchildren, Fiona, Gavin, Rorke, Ella, Owen, Layla and Jacob. Dotty is predeceased by her husband, Pastor Jack A. Fitzgerald.

A memorial service will take place at the Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 11:00 am. Interment will be private.
