April 10, 1928 — October 3, 2011

Doris Anna Manzo of Odenton, MD, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2011 at the Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, MD, at the age of 83. Doris was born on April 10, 1928 in Union City, NJ to the late Edward Welti and Elsa (Kaegi) Welti.

With the exception of family, Doris's life revolved around the New York Yankees, the Washington Redskins and New York City. Even though she got her degree in Mechanical Engineering, she chose to earn her teaching degree so she could educate children. As an elementary school teacher, she spent the majority of her adult life molding children, their children and then their children's children. Most of her teaching was spent at Odenton Elementary School in Odenton, MD. She was also extremely involved with the Republican Party; serving as an Election Judge at the polls for many years.

Doris is survived by her two children, Richard E. Kane of Odenton, MD and Barbara J. Maggert of St. Augustine, FL. She also leaves behind four grandchildren: Christopher Kane, Nicholas Kane, Jennifer Kane and Alex Kane.

Doris had many close friends in the Odenton community. One of her closest friends and co-worker at Odenton Elementary was Lawrence McCormick. Another close friend and co-worker and facilitator was Theresa Yates. She filled her days of retirement reminiscing her life experiences with Ruby Allen, Therese Barrett, Henry & Joanne Dow and experienced the Civil War through many conversations with Charles Seggie. Two very close friends that shared her life were Brenda Riley and Richard Bohlander.

The family will receive friends at Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. 1411 Annapolis Road, Odenton, MD 21113 on Thursday, October 6, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Our Lady of the Fields Roman Catholic Church, 1070 Cecil Avenue, South, Millersville, MD 21108 on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private.
