Donald Wilfred Hornick

On June 2, 2022, Donald Wilfred Hornick, 81, of Odenton, MD passed away due to complications from a stroke.  Donald was born in 1940 in Johnstown, PA to the late Albert Hornick and Mary (Mihall Hornick) Kesslak.  After high school, he moved to Washington DC to pursue a job opportunity and fortunately met Dorothy Ann Christensen whom he wed in 1962.  In 1973, Don and Dorothy moved to Odenton, MD where they raised their family.  Don worked at USNA for a number of years while also pursuing his passion for photography.  Many knew Don from the photos he took of the GORC recreational sports teams, confirmations, and weddings for well over 40 years.  Don also had a passion for radio controlled planes and was a member of Chesapeake Bay RC Club (CBRC).  Additionally, Don was a member of the Odenton Heritage Society.  Don was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for close to 50 years and enjoyed being an usher.

When recently asked about his life highlights, Don happily conveyed that Dorothy and his 4 boys were the love of his life.  One of his fondest memories in life was taking long Sunday drives with Dorothy.  Don was also proud of his 8 grandchildren.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Ann (Christensen) Hornick, who passed away in April 2019.  Don is survived by his four sons and their wives:  David and Joyce Hornick, Dennis and Stephanie Hornick, Douglas and Karen Hornick, and Darren and Tricia Hornick.  His eight grandchildren are Garrison, Brett, Jordan, Summer, Matthew, Alivia, Emily, and Brysen Hornick.  He is also survived by his brother and his wife, Richard and Sharon Hornick.

A celebration of Don’s life will be held at 11  a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Odenton, MD.  There will be a luncheon following the service.
