Dexter Jackson Armstrong, Jr.

August 16, 1928 — October 4, 2020

Dexter Jackson Armstrong, Jr., a resident of Odenton, Maryland passed away peacefully on Sunday October 4th, 2020 at the Hospice of the Chesapeake. Dexter was born on Thursday August 16th, 1928,  the son of the late Dexter Jackson Armstrong, Sr. and Rose Naugle Armstrong of McKeesport, PA.

Dexter is survived by his loving children, Chester Lee Armstrong and his wife Diane of Hanover, MD, Debbie Cross of San Antonio, TX,  Dexter J. Armstrong III and his wife Pamela of Glen Burnie, MD, Rose O’Haran of North Beach, MD and Laura Poulin of Odenton, MD; 13 beloved grandchildren,  Robert, Michelle, Kristel, Danny, Shanon, Dexter IV, Jennifer, Stephanie, Charleigh, Kyle, Michael, and George; 14 cherished great- grandchildren, Taylor, Mackenna, Jackson, Brianna, Seyenna, Olivia, Isaac, Trinity, Landon, Isabel, Lilly, Ava, Maximus, and Ryann. He is preceded in death by his wife Juanita, son Guy, granddaughter Jessica, and siblings, Rhoda “Cleo” Baldridge, Evelyn “Eileen” DeFelice, Shirley Volpe, and Robert Armstrong.

Dexter eagerly enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 towards the end of World War II. He later joined the U.S. Coast Guard and proudly served for 20 years. Before retiring from the U.S.C.G. he had the privilege of crossing the Antarctic Circle aboard the USCGC Southwind and serving on the USCGC Taney.  After his service, he served his community by managing local 7 Eleven stores and later served as a Dietary Aide at Pleasant Living.

Dexter’s greatest hobby was spending time with his family. He was a lifelong Colts and Orioles fan; as well as a fan of his sons and grandsons' little league teams. He took great pride and enjoyed maintaining his yard and his family was blessed with his culinary skills.

A private family service is being held at Donaldson Funeral Home and crematory, P.A. with a private burial to follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, MD 21122.
