David Stringfellow

January 18, 1947 — August 14, 2012

David Stringfellow, a 25-year resident of Maryland died from heart failure on August 14, 2012. Mr. Stringfellow was born in Brookhaven, Mississippi, on January 18, 1947. He graduated from Petal High School in 1965 and earned a B.S. degree in Personnel Management from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1986. He served in the Mississippi Air National Guard from 1968-1973, as an Air Operations Technician and in the Mississippi Army National Guard from 1973-1983, as the Unit Administrator for Company A, 2nd Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group, at Camp Shelby, Mississippi. He graduated from Special Operations, Airborne, and Jumpmaster Training and was a member of the Mississippi National Guard Parachute Team. He was retired from the U.S. Army in 1985. From 1987 to 2009 he worked in Maryland as a civilian Department of Defense employee, holding positions with First Army Headquarters, Army Field Support Center, and the Defense Intelligence Agency. Mr. Stringfellow was a history buff, especially enjoying his study of the Civil War and his ancestor's role in it.
Mr. Stringfellow was preceded in death by his father, Ollie Stringfellow, his mother, Jemmye Louise Moak Stringfellow, and a brother, Donald Wayne. He is survived by his wife, Kay Moffeit Stringfellow of Hanover; daughter Emily Claire Clemens, granddaughter Ashley Kay Clemens, and grandson Casey Austin Clemens, all of Odenton, Maryland; his sister Joan (Ann) Mooney of Petal, Mississippi; his sister Linda Sue Dirck and brother-in-law, Robert Logan Dirck of Great Bend, Kansas; his uncle Joe Taylor Moak of Abilene, Texas; nephew Robert L. Dirck, Jr. of Dyer, Indiana; nephew Stephen Douglas Mooney of Petal, Mississippi; niece Diana Dirck Muse of Geneseo, Kansas; and niece Sarah Mooney Tracy of Madison, Mississippi.
Pallbearers will be Casey Clemens, Barry Moak, Michael Moak, Richard Moak, Robert Dirck, Jr., Jim King, Jehu King, Charles Fortenberry, Wendel Skolaski, and Robert Skolaski.
The family will receive visitors from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 19, 2012 at Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. 1411 Annapolis Road Odenton, MD 21113 where a rosary service will take place at 6:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian celebration will be held Monday, August 20, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence Martyr Catholic Church 2815 Jessup Road Jessup, MD 20794 with Fr. Victor Scocco officiating.
Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project P.O. Box 758517 Topeka, KS 66675 or the Special Forces Association P.O. Box 41436 Fayetteville, NC 28309.
