David Scott Lower, a man of many accomplishments, was born on April 17th, 1968, at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, MD. He passed unexpectedly on April 24, 2024. A lifetime resident of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, David was a graduate of Old Mill High School, where he excelled as an athlete, running track and field, and competing nationally in men’s gymnastics. His father's career with United Airlines and later as a master falconer with Medieval Times Dinner Theatre, and his mother's work at Johns Hopkins Hospital as one of the founders of the Neuro Critical Care Unit (NCCU), were sources of inspiration for David. He was one of three children, with one brother and one sister, and with his extended family there was a constant source of love and support throughout his life.
After high school, he assisted the coaching staff of the Naval Academy men’s gymnastics team. While studying International Finance at the University of Baltimore, he worked as a Management Training Lead for Domino’s Pizza in the Maryland region. David enjoyed following the stock market and news on business and the economy. He spent several years restoring historic properties in the Fells Point and Canton neighborhoods in Baltimore and later went on to get his Real Estate Brokers License before retiring.
In 1998, he married his sweetheart Laura Cayton, his wife of 25 years. David was a dedicated father to their daughters, Alesha (21) and Grace (15) Lower. David was particularly fond of Ravens football, traveling with his family and friends, and was always the number one fan supporting his daughters at their volleyball tournaments, dance and music shows, and any of his family’s current endeavors. Among his greatest joys was being there for his daughters as they pursued their interests in dance, education, volleyball, Girl Scouts, music, and their shared faith in God. David enjoyed spending time with his nephews and niece. He also enjoyed mentoring young adults that came into his life at various times. David attended Glen Burnie Baptist Church in his youth, where he was baptized. He was married to Laura at Riva Trace Baptist Church, and they raised their girls as members of The Church at Severn Run.
His father was a professional race car driver, so David spent a great deal of time at various national racing events growing up and throughout his adult years. Following in his footsteps, David was a legacy champion Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) racer. He also enjoyed watching sports car racing, like Formula One and was always looking to participate in and attend autocross events throughout the mid-Atlantic region.
A philanthropist at heart, David was passionate about charity fundraising. He dedicated his time and energy to working with Habitat for Humanity, the Wounded Warriors Project, and the High-Performance Heroes: Veterans Vintage Racing Series, among other service projects. David's love for serving others was evident in his highly social nature and his willingness to provide pizzas for any event or occasion. Following a traumatic car accident in 2001 when a drunk driver injured him, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) worked with him to further their cause.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Judith “Ski” and Robert “Bob” Lower Jr., his father-in-law Steve Cayton, and sister-in-law Julie Lower. He is survived by his wife, Laura Lower, and their daughters, Alesha and Grace Lower; his brother Robert “Rob”Lower and his nephews Cameron, Brody, and Colton Lower; his sister Tracy (Michael) Simmons and his nephew Tyler Simmons; his mother-in-law Mary Alice Cayton, and his sister-in-law Kelly (Michael) Dean, and his niece Samantha Dean and nephew Daniel Dean.
