David A.
Gillum
1971 – 2026
David Andrew Gillum passed away May 11, 2026, following complications due to neurodegenerative disease. He was the loving husband of Deb Gillum and the beloved son of Robert “Bob” and Joyce Gillum.
Dave was a graduate of University of Maryland Baltimore and recently retired from a dedicated 29-year career with the Anne Arundel County Government where he served as an Information Services Manager. Dave was respected for his knowledge, professionalism and dedication throughout his career as a Geographic Information Systems Professional. He and his wife were looking forward to traveling and seeing the country together.
Born on April 29. 1971, Dave resided in Severn where he attended Jessup Elementary, MacArthur Middle and Meade High School. As a boy he always looked forward to spending time at his grandparent’s dairy farm in Pennsylvania. It is here that his love of nature began to take hold. As an adult he had many interests outside of work. He worked at Davidsonville Wildlife Sanctuary, managed the Blue Bird Trail at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center and as a master gardener volunteered at various locations including Patuxent Research Sanctuary North Tract.
Birds were Dave’s true passion, especially bluebirds. He shared his enthusiasm and expertise with countless others through his part-time work at a local bird supply store and frequently gave public presentations on how to attract bluebirds to backyard habitats. Dave proudly served as past president of the Anne Arundel Bird Club and was also a devoted member of the Maryland Bluebird Society. His love for nature and conservation left a lasting impact on the local birding community.
In addition to birding, Dave was an avid collector and enjoyed spending time searching for hidden treasures at estate sales.
He will be remembered for his kind spirit, intelligence, and the joy he found in sharing his passions with others.
Donations in his name may be made to the Anne Arundel Bird Club through the Maryland Ornithological Society (MOS) website at mdbirds.org.
