It is with heavy hearts that after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer, Tina Tishman, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 27th, 2014. She remained strong and courageous throughout her battle, living each day to the fullest. The family spent her last days sharing stories, looking through old pictures and reminiscing about times together. Prior to her passing, her daughter Cheryl and soon to be son-in-law, Frank also were able to share in a wedding blessing led by a minister at Tina's bedside in her home where a violinist played the families' favorite classical music.
Tina was born in the Bronx, New York, March 26, 1946. She was an only child, daughter of Richard Tarsia Incuria from Italy and Gertrude Ross from Connecticut. At the 1965 World's Fair in New York City, Tina met Bob Tishman at Bud's Biergarten. Bob describes it as "love at first sight". They were happily married for 46 years and lived all over including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Virginia and finally settled in Maryland. They were passionate about traveling. From cruising the Caribbean, to taking trips to Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa, they loved to explore and enjoyed their time together. Tina was most fond of her trip to St. Petersburg, Russia, and Italy.
Bob and Tina had two children; Richard and Cheryl Tishman. She was an amazing mother and cared so deeply for their well-being and success. She always listened with an open heart, offering great advice and direction. Her outpouring of love filled the Tishman home with lots of love, laughter and warm memories. She celebrated her family daily and always took the time to make birthdays and holidays memorable.
In 2011, Tina found extended family in Milano, Italy and spent time getting to know her newfound family over Skype. When Tina found out she had cancer, her biggest hope was that she would be able to meet them. In April 2013, she reunited with family in Milan. The joy and love she felt from her family during her time there was indescribable.
The family will miss her dearly and always remember her spiciness, caring ways, love for family and life, great energy, enthusiasm, and ability to always laugh and have fun. Tina is survived by her loving husband, Bob Tishman, children Richard and Cheryl Tishman and her grandson, Elijah Tishman. The family has already held a private viewing, but in the coming months will have a ceremony laying her to rest in Arlington National Cemetery. The cemetery will notify the family of the date when the funeral can be held. Family and friends are welcome to join us at that time to celebrate Tina's life.
God's Garden Poem
God looked around His garden
And He found an empty place
He then looked down upon the earth
And saw your precious face
He put His arms around you
And lifted you to rest;
God' s Garden must be beautiful
He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering
He knew you were in pain
He knew you' d never ever
Get well on earth again.
So He closed your weary eyelids
And whispered " Peace be thine "
Then He took you up to Heaven
With Hands so gentle and kind.
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you
The day God welcomed you home.
