In loving memory of C.A. Pushpavathy (Chillikkattil Aiyappan Pushpavathy)

Chillikkattil A. Pushpavathy, affectionately known as Amma, Ammamma, Ammayee, Vellimma, Muthashi, and Chechi, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, resilience, and joy. Born in Alathur, Mala, in Kerala’s Thrissur district, she was the eldest of five siblings and a lifelong pillar of strength for her family.

After many years of moving across India while her husband served in the Indian Army, she immigrated to the United States in 1993. Though she made her home with her son, Chef Vinod, and daughter-in-law, Nisha, she returned often to India to spend cherished time with her three daughters, Saroja, Vimala, and Shyla. In the United States, she became the heart of the household and a constant, loving presence in the lives of her grandchildren Rahul and Rathi, while remaining deeply connected to her grandchildren across the world—Deepthi, Divya, Pramod, Preethi, Shilpa, and Sharath.

A woman of many talents, she expressed love most often through food—fearless in the kitchen and generous with recipes and dishes that grew into cherished family traditions. She was a proud presence at the inauguration of her grandson’s five RASA locations, contributing to recipe tastings and offering thoughtful guidance. An avid gardener, she famously transformed the fruit from her pear and plum trees into Indian pickles, joyfully sharing them with friends and family.

A quick learner who embraced the modern world, she independently operated her own social media accounts to stay connected with loved ones near and far. Yet her greatest gift was her heart for others. She faithfully called her siblings and her three daughters in India every single day and was known for her quiet, steadfast generosity toward those in need.

She is survived by her four children, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, her brother Subhash, and her three sisters - Sujatha, Subhashini, Sushama. To the wider community who followed her journey online, she was fondly known as the “Chef’s Mom.” To her family and all who knew her, she will forever be remembered for her sharp wit, deep compassion, and boundless love.
