In Loving Memory of Charles E. Nelson
August 30, 1935 – March 8, 2025
With heavy hearts and faith in God’s eternal promise, we announce the passing of Charles “Chuck” E. Nelson, who was called home to be with the Lord on March 8, at the age of 89.
Born on August 30, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York to Jans “Charlie” and Mabel Nelson, Chuck lived a life devoted to service, justice, family, and faith. From a young age, he answered the call to serve, enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps before dedicating his life’s work to law enforcement. He began as a New York City detective, later became a New York State Trooper, and ultimately served as a Federal Agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF). His commitment to protecting others continued even after retirement when he became a Deputy Sheriff in Annapolis, Maryland. Additionally, Chuck dedicated 20 years to the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves, embodying the scripture:
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." – Matthew 5:9
Outside of his work, Chuck was a man of kindness, compassion, and faith. He had a love for God’s creation, especially animals, and found peace in fishing and with his family. He carried himself with quiet strength, humility, and an unshakable trust in the Lord.
Chuck is survived by his beloved children, Susan Stubbs (Timothy), Lauri Nelson, and Andrew Nelson (Jennifer), as well as his cherished grandchildren, Shawn, Amanda, Roger, Aubrey, and Kate. He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Linda Nelson, and his second wife, Sharon Peacock.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 29, at noon at First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Odenton. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The Humane Society of the United States, in keeping with Chuck’s love for God’s creatures.
While we mourn his passing, we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace in the arms of our Heavenly Father. His life of service, integrity, and love will continue to shine through those he left behind.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." – 2 Timothy 4:7
Rest in peace, Chuck. Your work on earth is done, but your eternal life in Christ has just begun.
