On April 29, 2013, Buenaventura K. Alvero Jr. (also known as "Yoyot" or "Jun" to family & friends) of Laurel passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 63. Husband of 38 years to Marinela E. Alvero; father of My-My Franco of Odenton, Wendell Alvero of Laurel, Amiel Alvero of San Diego and Matthew Alvero of Los Angeles; brother of Elenita, Arthur and Francis Alvero; grandfather of Matthew and Ysabella Franco and Arianna Alvero. He was predeceased by his parents Buenaventura Sr. and Elena Alvero and his brother Ramon Alvero. Born in the Philippines, Yoyot lived in Laurel since 1990. Prior to then he resided in Washington, D.C. He worked for the Canadian Embassy from 1989 until retiring in 2012. He was a member of Couples For Christ and Family Ministry. Yoyot enjoyed fishing and hunting. An excellent athlete, he also loved playing basketball, racquetball and tennis and received consistent MVP awards. Most especially, he loved spending time with his family.
