Bryan J. Malar

Bryan J. Malar, age 56, passed away peacefully at home after a lengthy illness, with his loving wife by his side.

Bryan was born and raised in Glen Burnie, where he lived until 1987, when his family moved to Pasadena. He graduated from Andover High School in 1987. Shortly thereafter, Bryan began a 25 year career of service as a police officer with the Baltimore City Police Department, moved to the Howard County Police Department and finally the Anne Arundel County Police Department, where he proudly served for 20 years. He truly loved his job, his blue family and dedicated his life to protecting others. Bryan was also a longtime member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #70.

Following his retirement, Bryan continued working as a background investigator and a security officer at Bingo World. He truly cherished the friendships he built with his coworkers and the patrons he came to know so well.

Growing up, Bryan was very active in many sports but excelled in baseball and soccer which lead him to be a Starting Pitcher for the Varsity Baseball Team and Starting Goalie for the Varsity Soccer Team in High School. Bryan enjoyed deer hunting with his father, numerous vacations to Ocean City and boating trips with his family. As the years went on, his interest in the water increased and he spent most of his free time on the bay, where he found joy in boating, fishing and crabbing and eventually started Mook’s Crab Shack. Bryan hosted many crab feasts at his home for co-workers, families and friends. He loved swimming, whether in the ocean, the bay, relaxing in his pool at home, or sitting in the hot tub with Robin having meaningful conversations and drinking cocktails. He enjoyed trying out various seafood recipes, his specialty was steamed crabs, crab soup and stuffed shrimp. Summer was always his favorite season.

Bryan loved to play the lottery, doing scratch offs and never missed an opportunity to go the casino and before becoming ill was able to fulfill his dream of going to Las Vegas with Robin. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, the Georgia Bull Dogs, Las Vegas Raiders and the Baltimore Orioles.

Bryan was social by nature and cherished time spent with his family and friends. He had a kind and gentle heart, especially when it came to animals, and he deeply loved dogs—most especially his beloved Rottie Sasha (who welcomed him into heaven), Hercules and Gracie.

Bryan is survived by his loving wife and devoted friend, Robin Malar (née Miller), who never left his side and never stopped fighting for him following his diagnosis over a year ago. He was the beloved son of Stanley and Sandra Malar; loving brother of Holli Truitt (husband Randy); caring stepfather of Chance Schinner, Nicole Holston, and Andrew Holston (wife Brittney); and cherished step-grandfather of Mark Walker III, Jesse Walker, Emmalyn Taylor, Callie Holston, Riley Holston, and Cole Holston. He was also a cherished nephew of Nancy Redelius and John Malar (wife Sheri). Bryan is further survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Bryan will be remembered for his service, his warmth, and the love and laughter he shared with those around him.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, January 17th from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the American Legion Post 40 (500 5th Ave. SE, Glen Burnie) with a Celebration of Life service starting at 2:00 PM.
