Bhupendra Ishwarlal Marfatia, age 86, passed away peacefully on March 08, 2025, surrounded by his family. He will be remembered fondly for his charismatic personality, determination, and strength, by all those who knew him.
A son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Bhupendra always offered a helping hand and unwavering support to those in his family and community. Throughout his life, he always brought his will power and fortitude to whatever challenge he faced and took great pride in always supporting his family.
He moved to the United States from India in 1968 to pursue the American Dream, and was joined by his late wife, Nayna, in 1970. Together, living first in San Francisco, then New York, they settled in Maryland, where they became founding members of both the Silver Spring and NOVA Club, friend groups. The groups served as anchors for young families as they found their footing in the US and fostered meaningful and long-lasting friendships-- across multiple generations.
Bhupendra will be remembered for this outgoing nature and love for life. He enjoyed social gatherings and spending time with friends and family. His distinctive and boisterous laugh brought joy to many and embodied his ability to enjoy each moment to the fullest. This zest for life, was coupled with his deep sense of kindness, a giving heart, and genuine warmth, which will also be dearly missed.
He is survived by his daughter Maushumi Carey (Erik), son Mrunal Marfatia (Hina) and his four beloved grandchildren, Zane, Cyrus, Anjali, and Alex.
