Alvin Dennis Simmons

On July 29, 2020, Alvin D. Simmons of Severn, Maryland, previously of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 81. Beloved father of  Diane Martin (husband Sammy) Wayne Simmons (wife Alfrita), Perry Simmons (wife Sonya), and Alvin King; caring step-father of Marlene Murphy (husband Bernie); Byron Young (wife Crystal), John Cummings, and Segun Akinribido, loving brother of the late Carol McAdoo and Blanton Simmons; cherished grandfather of 18 and great-grandfather of 40.  He is also survived by a favorite aunt, Ruby Thomas, many loving nieces, nephews, family members, and dear friends.

Alvin proudly served his country as an Intelligence Officer, MP, and Administrative Specialist for the United States Army for 22 years before retiring.  He then worked for Milwaukee County House of Corrections as a security manager for 20 years, when he retired as Captain Simmons.

Alvin was a 33 degree lifetime member of Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Wisconsin (Blazing Star Lodge #4) where he served as Past Right Worshipful Grand Secretary, he was a Shriner in Zembo Temple #70 and Eastern Star as well. He was a member of St. Marks AME Church is Milwaukee, Wisconsin and a member of the Milwaukee Bowlers Guild and American Bowling Congress (ABC) for many years.  He had a lifetime membership in the NAACP.

Alvin loved to travel. While traveling he enjoyed listening to books on tape. His favorite author was John Grisham. He also enjoyed listening to blues and jazz. He enjoyed working Soduko and crossword puzzles in his spare time. Alvin enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Due to the limitation on the number of guests allowed, all services are private.
