Alfred Guy Balow, Sr.

Alfred Guy Balow, Sr., a resident of Severn, MD and long-time resident of Lorton, VA, passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at the Genesis Health Care center in Severna Park, MD. He was 79 at the time of his passing. Alfred (“Al”) was born on September 25, 1941 in Chippewa Falls, WI and was the son of the late Alfred LaVerne Balow and Gladys (Lowe ) Balow. Al joined the US Army shortly after graduating from High School and was sent to Vietnam to serve his country.  He remained in the US Army for 24 years and retired as a Master Sergeant.  After retiring from the military, Al began a career working for a few defense contracting confirms.  He enjoyed fishing and bowling in his free time.   Al is survived by his three loving children: Sonja Langlois (David), Katharina Balow (Louis) and Alfred G. Balow, Jr. (Christina); beloved sister, Mary Schneider (Marv); devoted brother, Don Balow;  five cherished grandchildren, Samantha, David, Tiffany, Rachel and Hannah; five adorable greatgrandchildren,  Cheyenne , Cayden, Charlotte, Abigail and Cecilia; Alfred is preceded in death by his wife, Magdalena, and brothers, Chuck and Bill.  Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the American Legion Post 276, 8068 Quarterfield Road, Severn, MD 21113.
