Aldine Harris Mahr, a resident of Gambrills, MD, formerly of Bowie, MD, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2013. Aldine was born on February 21, 1927 in Washington, D.C. and was the daughter of the late Alton Harris and Aldine Geneva Marshall Harris.
Aldine Mahr was the only child of a single working mother. An asthmatic child, Aldine could not participate in most childhood activities; yet, she remembered her childhood as a happy one, surrounded by her mother's complete and unconditional love.
After graduating Falls Church High School, Aldine was employed by the War Department (now the Department of Defense). Always loving a uniform, Aldine attended USO dances where she met a sailor, Ronald Mahr, who had served his country in WWII. He became the love of her life. They married in 1947 and began their family in 1948.
A dedicated stay-at-home mother, Aldine also cared for her mother later in life. After loosing her husband in 2000 and her mother in 2001, she went to live with one of her sons.
Along with spending time with her family, Aldine's great joys were watching old movies, baking, and celebrating Christmas in a grand fashion.
Aldine is survived by her six loving children, Michael Mahr and wife, Elizabeth of Savannah, GA, Roderick Mahr of Greenbelt, MD, Kevin Mahr and wife, Valerie of Pinellas Park, FL, Susan St. Jean and husband, Mark of Dunkirk, MD, Timothy Mahr of Glenn Burnie, MD and Wesley Mahr and wife, Kelly of Gambrills, MD; nine devoted grandchildren, Chris, Wes, Kristen, Sarah, Tiffany, Jimmy, Mackenzie, Bailey, and Rod; three cherished great grandchildren, Tyler, Jackson and Blake. Aldine is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Ronald Mahr and grandson, Andrew.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake in memory of Aldine Mahr. Memorial services will be private.
