It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, family member, and friend Akhila Chandran. Akhila, a resident of the Washington DC area for over 50 years, passed away peacefully at the age of 88. She was surrounded by family and those who loved and adored her. She is survived by her son, Sushil Chander (wife Alka), daughter, Vinaya Simha (husband Sesh), daughter, Deepa Youssef (husband Pierre) and her six grandchildren Tara Chander (husband Shivam), Ashwin Chander (wife Morgan), Dileep Simha, Anjali Chander (fiancé Manav), Maya Youssef, Nikhi Youssef, brother, R. Reghunath and many loving nieces and nephews. Akhila is predeceased by her devoted husband of 58 years, CK Chandran, her 3 siblings (R. Vijayaraghavan, Soumini Rammohan, R. Jayakrishnan) and her parents (Dr. AK and Tara Raghavan).
Born, raised and educated in Kerala, India, Akhila and CK were married in May 1955 and started their lives together in New Delhi. Soon they welcomed their only son, Sushil, followed by two daughters Vinaya and Deepa. The family moved to Washington, DC in July 1971 where Akhila continued to lovingly raise her family, supported many charitable organizations, and created a large network of friends who would become our extended family. Akhila was everyone’s favorite, the mom that everyone wished they had. She led a long, fulfilling and brilliant life. She was the center of our universe, and we are eternally grateful to have been her children and grandchildren. She is now reunited with all her loved ones who passed before her and is finally at peace. You are forever with us and a part of each of us.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Chandran's name may be made to the charity of your choice.
