Patricia Ann Mathews, 80 affectionately known as “Lollie” was born on July 22, 1944, to the late Wilbur Garner and Florence Wright Garner in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. She peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Sunday January 19, 2025.
Patrica was educated in the Pittsburgh public school system where she graduated from Schenley High School in 1962. On April 6, 1963, she was joined in wedlock to the love of her life, Retired United States Army Chief Warrant Officer III John I. Mathews, Jr. From this union Angela Marie and Thomas Franklin were born.
Patricia faced all the challenges of being a military spouse for twenty years with courage and grace which included two overseas tours to Germany and three unaccompanied tours alone with their children while her husband served in Vietnam and South Korea. After her husband’s military career ended Patricia continued to support him in his service to this nation for and additional twenty-seven years while worked for the National Security Agency.
Patricia spent much of her life as a homemaker lovingly tending to the needs of her family. She worked outside of the home on three occasions first at the Fort Meade Post Exchange as a jewelry salesperson, second at District Photo as a film processing technician and lastly at Meade Middle School as a cafeteria assistant.
Patricia was a woman of many talents, she enjoyed baking and decorating cakes, sewing, painting, gardening, and shopping. When she wasn’t pursuing one of her many talents, she was traveling the world with her husband or cheering on her beloved Pittsburgh Steelers often with an Iron City beer in her hand.
Patricia was a quiet kind person who expressed unconditional love to her family and friends and always went out of her way to ensure that everyone’s needs were met. This was most evident in the love she expressed for her two beloved grandsons, John “J.T” Mathews and Daniel Beasley. Before J.T was born Patricia was known to everyone as “Pat” but J.T. changed that when he began calling her “Lollie” and she became known as “Lollie” to all. Patricia proudly supported Daniel whom she affectionately called “Bubba” in all his academic and sports endeavors often traveling long distances to do so.
Patricia leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of sixty-one years, John I. Mathews Jr., her daughter Angela Marie Beasley, her son Thomas Franklin Mathews, her daughter in-law, Yasmine Noza-Mathews, her beloved grandsons John Thomas Mathews (Elaina Christian), Daniel Sinclair Beasley, her sister in-laws, Joan May-El, Linda Massey, Wanda Drain (Kevin Drain Sr.), and a host of nieces, nephews, other family, friends, and neighbors.
