Edward H. Brumit, 89, died peacefully after battling a lengthy illness on June 3rd, 2024, in Crofton, Maryland. Born in Johnson City, Tennessee, Edward enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, which he served proudly for 20 years, including Vietnam War service, for which he earned a Bronze Star Medal with “V” device, and attained the rank of Master Seargent. He then did 30 years of service in the Department of Defense as an Arabic linguist, including many overseas tours. One of his proudest achievements was, as the first Marine to complete language professionalization on active duty, to later establish the Military Cryptologic Continuing Education Program (MCCEP), which continues today, having mentored many linguists.
Edward enjoyed golfing and travelling, including exploring our western states. In accordance with his wishes, he will be interred privately at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville, Maryland. Much loved, Edward will be missed by his wife, Josephine, daughter, Josephine, and grandson, Edward. He was pre-deceased by his son, John.
