Cathy L. Anklin (VanSteenburgh), 73, of Fort Meade, MD, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2025. Though she passed peacefully, her sudden departure came as a complete shock and has left her family heartbroken. She was deeply loved by all, especially her children and grandchildren.
Cathy was born in Schenectady, N.Y., grew up in Fairmount, N.Y. and attended West Genesee High School (class of ’70), Camillus, N.Y. Cathy would later attend Monroe Community College, Rochester, N.Y. for finance and banking. She was a certified beautician and retired from a career within the banking industry in Columbia, S.C.
In 2024, Cathy moved to Fort Meade to be close to her family, spending much of her time traveling to sporting events, dance recitals, and band competitions to witness her grandchildren’s accomplishments. Among being a loved grandmother, Cathy had a voracious appetite for reading and lifelong learning.
Preceded in death by her husband, Jack D. Whitten, son, Todd J. Anklin and parents, Gordan and Betsy VanSteenburgh (Seely). Cathy survives by her son, Phillip (Serafina) Anklin, daughter, Melissa Westfall (Perry Transue), and grandchildren, Nika and Eva Anklin, and, Kendall and Conrad Westfall; sister, Sally (Lee) Mietz, brother, Gordan Peter (Marsha) VanSteenburgh, sister, Nancy (Larry) Halloran, and numerous extended family members.
