John Thomas Riffle (known by everyone as Tom) of Odenton, Maryland passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 20, 2018 surrounded by all his loving family. Tom was born on October 15, 1944 in Takoma Park, Maryland to the late Paul and Eleanor Riffle.
Tom was a residential and commercial General Contractor most of his career. He was proud of his service in the United States Army. He greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, travel, playing cards and shooting pool with his buddies, summertime, being outdoors, gospel music, road trip adventures, movie nights, and most of all spending time with his large family and many friends.
Tom volunteered in the community, served as Secretary of the Meade National Heritage Association (MNHA), and helped feed the needy in a variety of ways. He regularly attended the MACC church in Crofton.
He will most be remembered for his sense of humor, his kindness and big heart, and always taking time to help anyone in need. Tom was a devoted family man and a loyal friend.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Shirley Christ Riffle; three daughters, Robin Zimmerman, Shannon Pedersen and Jennifer Schugam; five siblings, Ruth Mayes, James, Paul, Frank and David Riffle; eight grandchildren, Caitlyn, Jacy, Sawyer, Madeleine, Tommy, Jack, Arthur and William; two great grandchildren, C.J. and Ada, and 17 nieces and nephews.
