James "Pete" Avent Obituary

James Peter “Pete” Avent was the youngest child of Peggy Avent and the late James Richard Avent.  He began his earthly sojourn on May 15, 1980 in Washington, DC and departed on March 2, 2019. He was affectionately known by many names Pete, Bear, Black, and DC.

As a youth Pete was a member and attended East Capitol Street church of Christ in Washington, DC with his parents and two older sisters.  Peter grew up in Lanham, Maryland and attended Glenarden Woods Elementary School, Martin Luther King Middle School, and graduated from Laurel High in 1998.  After graduation, Pete took time to find the next path of his journey, which led him to join the US Armed Force in September 2000 specializing in auto mechanics. He completed one tour in Iraq from 2002-2003.  His training as a light wheel vehicle mechanic took him to Budingen, Germany for 3 years from 2003-2006, there he made life-long friendships. Pete served in US Armed Force on active duty until 2006 then serving in the US Army Reserves until 2015.  Pete held many vehicle mechanic positions after serving, his final being at Skookum Contract Services, contracting as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic with the Federal Government.

Pete married the love of his life Tiffany Ennis, on September 13, 2008.  Their love produced and nourished their three Loves; Tyree, Trinity, and Jaliyah.  Pete loved spending time with family, playing spades, and grilling. He was always the life of the party at any event he attended.  Pete’s friendships ran far and deep and sustained him in every leg of his journey, from the streets of Lanham to the roads in Wilson to the autobahns of Germany and finally to the courts of Spring Meadows.

Pete leaves to cherish his memory his wife Tiffany; son Tyree; daughters Trinity and Jaliyah of Severn, MD; mother Peggy of Sims, NC; sisters Stacie (Eric) of Wilson, NC; Sheree of Laurel, MD; mother-in-law Debbie of Upper Marlboro, MD; sister-in-law Tamika (Paul) of Laurel, MD; brother-in-law Terrell (Patricia) of Upper Marlboro, MD; four nieces: Raigan, Jocelyn, Mariah, Taylor, five nephews: James, Marcell, Christian, Corey, Prince; and a host of many other relatives and friends.
