Daniel Sims Obituary

Daniel Edward Sims, a resident of Severn, MD, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, MD. He was 70 years old. Daniel was born on November 18, 1948 in Chicago, IL and was the son of the late Edward Anthony Sims and Paulette (nee Butesh) Sims.

Daniel was a loyal, hard-working man who took great pride in his family. His twenty two year military career in the United States Marine Corps began in the late sixties and took him all over the world. Dan always returned from every trip with a keepsake or collectible of sort, to remind him of his time there. His most cherished discovery came when he met his wife, Viviana, in the Philippines at the end of 1970. They quickly fell in love and their hearts were inseparable for nearly fifty years. His distinguished military career, which included two Purple Heart awards as well as many other honors, came to an end when he retired at Ft. Meade. Always the provider, Dan quickly began a second career working at the DRMO office on base. Daniel loved the performing arts, especially music and comedy. His music taste was incredibly eclectic and spanned many generations. He really appreciated the skill it took to produce the music of his childhood, all the way to present day artists. Daniel was also a huge fan of live stand-up comedy. He and his sons frequented the local comedy clubs as his self-described - perfect guy’s night out. He loved to make people laugh and was always ready with a one-liner or movie quote for any situation. Known as a soft spoken man, Daniel commanded the room with his intellect and positive energy. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.

Daniel is survived by his beloved wife, Viviana Sims of Severn, MD; four loving sons, Bobby Sims (Nicole) of Halethorpe, MD, John Sims (Alena) of Halethorpe, MD, Edward Sims (Casi) of Laurel, MD and Jorge Fegi of the Philippines; five cherished grandchildren, Aubrey, Quinn, Chase, Izabela and Braylon Sims; three devoted brothers; David, Michael and John Sims.
