Bruce Walt Shaw

Bruce Walt Shaw, 78, of Severn, Maryland died Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Howard County General Hospital in Columbia, Maryland. Mr. Shaw was born February 28, 1940 in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, son of the late Elwood Paul and Margaret Shaw (Walt). He graduated from New Kensington High School in 1958 and married high school sweetheart, Christine Onifer, March 17, 1962. Mr. Shaw served in the US Air Force for more than 22 years before retiring with the rank of MSgt in 1984. During his distinguished military career, MSgt Shaw was awarded the following decorations: Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal. MSgt Shaw served as a Russian linguist, and upon retirement from active duty further served his country in a civilian capacity at Ft. Meade, Maryland. Mr. Shaw retired from the National Security Agency in 2002. Always a sports lover, he diligently worked on his golf and bowling games, and armchair quarterbacking his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers to victory.

Mr. Shaw is preceded in death by his loving wife Chris and is survived by his two sons, Scott (Lauri) of Reisterstown, Maryland and Tim (Jennifer) of Columbus, Georgia; five loving grandchildren, Kristina, Andrew, Tim, Katie, Zack, and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held, Friday, June 8, 2018 at Donaldson Funeral Home in Odenton, Maryland, with a reception at Molloy's Irish Pub in Crofton, Maryland following. A private interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that a memorial donation be made to the American Diabetes Association.
