Pastor Jack A. Fitzgerald, a resident of Severn, MD, passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at the Crofton Care & Rehabilitation Center in Crofton, MD, He was 88. Jack was born on September 15, 1932 in Washington, Indiana and was the son of the late Owen Gilbert Fitzgerald and Alice Esther (nee Meade) Fitzgerald.
Jack was a dedicated Pastor for over 55 years serving a great many churches in both Indiana and Maryland. He was a wonderful Pastor, ministering to congregations both big and small with love, faith, enthusiasm, humor, and good fellowship. Pastor Jack was always looked to for consolation, support, and comfort during very difficult times. He was a great source of strength and inspiration to everyone who knew him and was an especially loving and dedicated father, grandfather and great-grandfather, always willing to pitch in and lend hand to anyone who needed help. A great storyteller, Pastor Jack had a gift for instantly captivating his congregation or just his family with a quick tale from the past or a funny story. He told some real stemwinders. He also served as a Parole Officer and a Corrections Officer.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 50 plus years, Dorothy Fitzgerald of Severn, MD, two loving children, David R. Lawson and wife, Veronica of Mineral, VA and Donna Stephenson and husband, Scott of Severn, MD; six cherished grandchildren, Amanda, Samantha, Shane, Katie, Jimmy and Jack; five adorable great-grandchildren, Fiona, Gavin, Rorke, Ella and Owen. He is also survived by one brother, Burke Fitzgerald of Washington, Indiana and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by brothers James, Donald, Owen Ray, and sisters Mary and Phoebe.
A memorial Service will take place at Alberta Gary Memorial United Methodist Church, 9405 Guilford Road, Columbia, MD 21046 at 10:30 am on June 26, 2021.
