University of Maryland Medical Center from atrial fibrillation with her children at her side.
Carol was born on November 9, 1936, in Binghamton, New York. She attended Friends Academy, The Knox School, and earned an Associate's degree in Secretarial Studies from Centenary Junior College in Hackettstown, New Jersey, in 1958. At Centenary in 1957, she met her best friend, Susan Gray, who invited her to spend a weekend at her parent's brownstone townhouse in Brooklyn Heights, New York. Susan's brother David lived in a converted horse stable attached to the townhouse. When Susan introduced Carol to David, he showed her his classical music record collection, and as the story goes, that was the last time Susan saw Carol for the rest of the weekend. Carol married David Manning Gray on July 13, 1958, and they were married for 51 years until his death on November 10, 2009.
Carol's passions were her pets, dramatic roles in school and community theatre productions, reading, and later coloring. In addition, Carol enjoyed spending time with good friends, especially "The Group" of Fernwood Drive, Wilbraham, Massachusetts, where she spent the bulk of her middle years. There was no shortage of shenanigans to reminisce about the Grassetti, Strepka, Theocles, Carter, Henriques, and Sokley families.
Carol Gray is survived by her son, David M.Gray, Jr. (Yoshiko Gray) of North Andover, Massachusetts; daughter Penelope Jurick of Glen Burnie, Maryland, (Robert Jurick), four grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members including a half sister she found through Ancestry.com. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, and husband.
There will be a Celebration of Carol's Life on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at 3 pm, at the Reformed Church of Locust Valley, 115 Ryefield Rd, Locust Valley, NY 11560. There will be a Graveside service immediately following the Celebration of Life at the Locust Valley Cemetery, 117 Ryefield Rd, Locust Valley, NY 11560.
