Albert Greenlaw Obituary

Albert H. “Buzz” Greenlaw, Jr. passed away at the Anne Arundel County Medical Center on March 31, at the age of 79.

Born in Crestline, Ohio, on November 29, 1944, Buzz grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland, the only child of Albert H. Greenlaw and Pauline G. Greenlaw. After graduating from Montgomery Blair High School in 1962, Buzz joined the U.S. Army in 1965 and served in Vietnam in 1967 and 1968. He concluded his honorable military service in 1969.

Upon returning to the United States, he met Sherrin Rhodes one fateful Saturday evening at the Bladensburg Rollerskating Rink. They began dating, and Buzz would take Sherry out for joyrides on his motorcycle – against her father’s wishes. Sherry would later say these motorcycle rides were the first inkling of his lifelong enthusiasm for cars and motorcycles and her rebellious spirit. They were married at Christ Memorial Presbyterian Church in Columbia, Maryland, on August 8, 1970.

Buzz and Sherry spent much of the 1970s in Silver Spring, Maryland, before moving to Meredith, New Hampshire. As his fascination with cars grew, Buzz spent the next several years building relationships with his community as a Mac Tool distributor. It was those relationships that led Buzz and several friends to embrace their entrepreneurial spirit and open an automotive and tire repair shop, where Buzz was responsible for managing and growing the tire portion of the business.

The couple spent nearly 30 years living in New Hampshire, especially enjoying time spent at his family’s cabin on Lake Winnipesaukee, hosting friends and family for visits.

After retiring from their careers, Buzz and Sherry moved back to Maryland to be closer to family, eventually settling in Odenton. As is often the case with motorcycle enthusiasts, Buzz spent countless hours tinkering and fiddling with his motorcycle, but only when he wasn’t keeping up on his pool skills, weekly poker games with neighborhood friends and current events.

Buzz Greenlaw is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years, Sherrin Greenlaw, brother-in-law David Rhodes (wife Toni Rhodes), sister-in-law Carol Gulick Metzer, niece Sydney Rhodes, and nephews Spencer Rhodes and Mathew Gulick (husband Jeffrey Raver).

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 4 from 2-4pm at Donaldson Funeral Home, located at 1411 Annapolis Road, Odenton, MD, 21113.
