Mrs. Lilyan Ruth Rosen passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at the age of 98. She lived her last few years in Baltimore at Hampton Meadows Assisted Living Home. She is predeceased by one sister, Marlene Chaiet. Her surviving sister, Ann Leavitt, told her family that Lilyan was really 99 years old, but that the officials on Ellis Island had miscalculated because they didn't hear her correctly.
Lilyan was happily married to Irving Edward Rosen from 1941 until he passed in 1980. Her parents, Ethel and Louis Ruttenberg, brought Lilyan to the United States from Poland when she was only eight years old. Mrs Rosen's survivors include her two sons and their wives, Michael and Mary Rosen, and Barry and Susan Rosen. Lilyan is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Rosen grew up in New York City and later moved to Scarsdale, New York in 1952 with her husband and two sons. In the late seventies, Lilyan and her husband moved to Hollywood, Florida to retire. After Irving passed, Lilyan then moved to Maryland to be closer to her family.
During her lifetime, Lilyan enjoyed entertaining and was always dressed to the nines. Some affectionately called her, "Diamond Lil". She also loved to dance with Irving at New York hotspots like the El Morocco. She made sure that both of her sons not only learned to dance, but that they also practiced impeccable manners. Her family likes to entertain the thought of Irving greeting his beloved wife into life everlasting for one more dance together.
Interment will take place on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Sharon Gardens, 273 Lakeview Avenue, Valhalla, New York, 10595.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that any donations be made to the donor's favorite charity.
