I met Kathy in 1980 when we worked together at Ft Meade when we were both GS3’s (that means we were the workhorses and made no money).
The second day on the job she came in and wallpapered the top of her old ugly government desk which faced mine. I watched her cut out a border for the top of her desk and said to myself “why didn’t I think of that?” Throughout the years, I watched her and Donn decorate their homes and always said “why didn’t I think of that? “
After a few months on the job it was my birthday and she comes in with a cake she had made from scratch that was a perfect replica of a typewriter for me. I asked myself, “How many talents does this girl have?” She never ceased to amaze me right up to the end.
We soon became great friends. Our families eventually got together and we each began our travels through life that included heartbreak and sorrows and happiness and laughter for each of us. Both Kathy and Donn became spiritual leaders to John and me. Our friendship was cemented in both our love for Jesus and each other.
As our children grew older and began their lives we saw more of each other as couples. We had parties, dinners, trips together, pool days and nights, saw theater plays and musicals together, played games together and just hung out. We extended our friendship to include other friends and family members.
Kathy and Donn opened their beautiful home for celebrations to everyone. They hosted a Valentine’s Day dinner one year. The house was decorated from top to bottom in hearts. Even the toilet paper had hearts  even the butter for the rolls was cut in hearts. We played games, ate, drank and always celebrated our longtime love for one another. On another occasion Kathy and Donn offered up their home to me to host my husband’s 50th birthday as a surprise celebration. Kathy knew how much I loved her taste in decorating and I was always bragging about her house and even showing it off to others anytime I could get away with acting like it was mine . My husband and I will never forget being able to use their house as if it was mine and have his 50 birthday party. Was that really 23 years ago???
Over the years we have had so much fun together. We celebrated graduations, retirements, weddings, funerals, birthdays and holidays together and made many cherished memories together. None of these celebrations will be the same without her. We will miss Kathy forever until we get to be with her again. We are confident that she is with Jesus and Chip and her mom and dad. She knows more now than we do, that life is a blink of the eye, and we will all be with her soon. She is not missing us as we are missing her, she is not feeling pain, she has been set free. Psalm 91:14-15. Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free.
We love you Kathy and will miss you in everything we do while our time here on earth remains. It will be lonely without you, but we will rejoice in knowing that you were brave enough to lead the way and are waiting for us. Until we meet again my dear friend.

My heartfelt condolences go out to Kathy’s beautiful family and friends. It seems that her bright light shined on many people and I pray that her precious memory will never fade. May God who knows our sorrow and shares our pain comfort you until the time when death and sickness are no more. (Revelation 21:4)
