Jacob Wallace Dill a resident of Odenton, MD, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. He was 86. Jacob was born on July 12, 1929 in Elkton, MD and was the son of the late Samuel Dill and Edna Lane Dill.
Jacob enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on August 5, 1947 and served his country until 1967. He went to work for Westinghouse Electric Corporation until his retirement in 1989. During that time he received his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from University of Maryland.
Jacob was a baseball and softball umpire for many years in Anne Arundel County for the Golden Triangle Official Association. Jacob collected baseball cards, played golf and collected beer cans. He also collected Polka Music and was a member of the International Polka Association and played music for various nursing homes. Jacob was also a member of the Spice of Life Dance Club at Blob’s Park.
Jacob is survived by his beloved wife, Irene Dill of Odenton, MD; three loving children, Susan Hanna of Londonderry, NH, Steven L. Dill of Amissville, VA and Stanley E. Dill of Perryville, MD; six cherished grandchildren, Leslie Casey, Matthew Hanna, Samantha Dill, Austin Dill, Andrew and Charles Smith; three adoring great- grandchildren, Annabelle, Caroline and Davidson Smith. Jacob is preceded in death by his brother, Charles Dill and sister, Grace Shorts.
The family will receive friends at the Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1411 Annapolis Road, Odenton, MD 21113 on Monday, July 27, 2015 from 3:00 pm to 6:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at 12:00 pm in our Chapel. Interment will follow Maryland Veterans Cemetery Crownsville, MD.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
The family invites friends to wear an article of bright red clothing to the services in celebration of Jacob’s life.
