Frances Jean Rhone of Elkridge, MD, entered Heaven’s gate on Monday, June 19, 2017 at Gilchrist Hospice Care in Columbia, MD, at the age of 85.  Frances was born on July 29, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY to the late George Weston and Thelma (Currey) Weston.

She is preceded in death by her four brothers, George, Ferdinand, Robert, and Harry and three sisters, Bernice, Florence and Thelma.

Frances worked many years in a management role as a data analyst.  After retiring, she became an active member of the community, providing loving care for children of family and friends.

Frances had an unwavering faith in God. In January, 1997, she joined The Peoples Community Baptist Church in Silver Spring, MD, where she was an involved member.  Frances was a Cell leader for many years enjoying weekly bible study sessions and vacation bible school programs. Frances enjoyed volunteering for many of the church’s community outreach activities.

Frances’ love for helping people extended beyond the walls of the church.  She volunteered at the Montgomery County General Hospital, in Olney MD, where she happily greeted visitors every day with a warm smile and a kind heart.

Frances enjoyed music, attending many concerts with family and friends.  She also greatly enjoyed dancing, reading, board and card games, but nothing was more enjoyable than spending time with her family. God and family were the foundations of her life.

Frances enjoyed traveling with family and friends to various points throughout the continental US, Hawaii, Mexico and Caribbean Islands.

Frances was an avid sports fan whether attending the 1984 Olympics, or watching her grandson’s high school football games, or watching her favorite professional football team (Washington Redskins) with family.

Frances cherished items given to her by her family.  She left behind many treasures that were especially meaningful to her; a wooden cutting board made by her eldest son 50 years ago, locks of hair from grandchildren’s first haircuts, and numerous newspaper clippings of her grandson’s basketball and football successes, and a 30 year collection of greeting cards from her children and grandchildren.

Frances’ family and her role as mother and grandmother was the most important thing to her.  This is where she drew her strength and left her legacy.

Frances is survived by her sister, Lillian Ogburn, her three children, David H. Rhone, Jr. and his wife, Claudia, Steven A. Rhone and his wife, Barbara and Lynda Rhone Wilkerson and her husband, Earl; 13 grandchildren, Bryan, Claudia, Danielle, David B., Hannia, Jack, Juan, Naomi, Rebecca, Samantha, Sidney, Stephanie and Steven Jr.; granddaughter in-law Edith, grandson in-law Joey; four great grandchildren, David B. Jr., Devin, Ezra and Maya.  She is also survived by David H. Rhone, Sr., numerous nieces, nephews, loved ones, and friends.  Frances also leaves behind her beloved companion pet “Chloe”.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all those who cared for Frances during her illness and final stages of her life.
