David Nixon, Sr.

David Nixon Sr. “Pops”, “Bobby”, passed away peacefully at home on the 20th of March after a long illness.  He was born on September 22nd 1941 in Docena, Alabama, to the late Roosevelt Nixon and Daisy Miles Nixon.  In 1952 after the passing of his mother, he moved to Baltimore, Maryland to live with his late uncle and aunt, Henry E. and Phoebe Tobias.

David Sr. graduated from Carver Vocational-Technical High School located in Baltimore, Maryland in 1960.  After high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force for four years where he served as an Air Policeman.  Shortly after separating from active duty, he began his career with Western Electric and AT&T. After meeting the love of his life, he married the beautiful Gladys Pinkett in 1966. This union was blessed with four children.  He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Coppin State College.  He served 20 years with the Department of Justice where he was recognized for multiple projects.  Two of his most notable projects included managing telecommunications during the Trial of the Pan Am 103 terrorist attack and telecommunications for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.  He retired in 2006.

David Sr. was a people person.  He loved family gatherings and cook-outs.  He kept a personal phone book in his desk so he could call and check on family every weekend.  He adored his grandchildren and gave each one a nickname when they were born.  He enjoyed hunting on the Eastern Shore with his close friends Elton, George, Jessie, and Timmy.  David Sr. also enjoyed fishing, watching sports, news programs, and discussing history with family and friends. He enjoyed watching Steve Harvey’s Family Feud, listening to blues, and do-wop music.  He loved the color blue.  He was a true Baltimore Ravens fan.  David Sr. loved Gladiola flowers because they reminded him of his beautiful wife, Gladys.

David Sr. is survived by his wife, Gladys and four children, Sonya, Shelly (Artie), David Jr. “Bo” (Bonnie), and Shannon (Hugo); Siblings: Willie Joe (Irma), Maryann, Yvonne (Henry), and Louise; Brother-in-laws: Leon II (Laurie) and William Jr. “Motor” Sister-in-laws: Virginia and Rosemary; Grandchildren: Gregory, Kourtney, Breonah, Daivon, Marcus, Jacquez, Jazmir, India, DJ, Alex, DeArtis, Jayden, Caleb, Asa, and Jace;  Great-Grandchildren: Raelynn and Liam; Special nieces: Donna, Felicia, Tracy, Taybar, Dashunda and Kayla; Godchildren: Tracey and RJ;  Special nephews: Leon III and Aaron; and many devoted cousins and friends.

Proceeded in death: Siblings: Linda-Faye, Tryfenia, and George; Brother-In- Laws: Waymon, Theodore, and James; Sister-In-Law: Camilla.
